This feature has been introduced in order to help with managing large numbers of websites in an account. Users can create tags and attach them to websites when websites are created or from the Global Tag List in the Global Settings > System Config > Tags area.
Tags can be used anywhere users can search for websites, such as on Wallboards and the main Websites list. You can also combine Tags with User Groups in order to easily grant access to groups of websites for groups of users. Any websites added to a Tag would then automatically be available to users in groups with that tag attached.
Use Case: Ecommerce Agency
As an agency that runs websites for multiple brands, across multiple locales, Tags can be used to help improve website organisation. For example, consider this list of websites:
- ASOS UK
- ASOS EU
- River Island UK
- River Island EU
- Ikea UK/EU
Tags could be created for these websites per locale (UK and EU), per brand (ASOS, River Island and Ikea) and optionally a third set of Tags for the category of website brand (Fashion and Homeware). As a website can have multiple tags, the Ikea site could be given both the UK and EU tags.
This setup would enable you to configure the wallboards to only show websites for UK brands or create a user group for people who need to only access River Island websites, or all websites for a particular locale.
