Fantastic Data Breaches and How to Prevent Them Event

Named in the top 10 world’s most dangerous people alongside Trump & Putin, we are all under attack from Magecart. They attack websites, digital platforms & e-commerce 3rd party supply chains to steal our data, selling it to the highest bidder on the dark web. Our aim is to increase awareness on Magecart attacks, therefore we’ve created an event for Leeds Digital Festival.

An Introduction to Data Breaches

GDPR came into force in May 2018 and in 9 months there have been nearly 60,000 reported data breaches in the EU alone. Magecart attacks make-up part of this statistic and have impacted companies including; British Airways, Ticketmaster, Vision Direct and Discount Mugs. Magecart attacks can range in length; going undetected for days, weeks, months or even years!

The consequence for Magecart breaches includes ICO fines which currently stands at 4% of annual turnover and reputational damage which is often difficult to recover from.

RapidSpike Data Breach Monitor (DBM) can detect Magecart attacks in under 5 minutes, meaning you can act fast to secure data. Our DBM monitors untrusted hosts where data is being sent to, giving you the power to investigate all hosts.

Having a system in place to catch attacks means you can be prepared to handle an attack if it occurs. Companies who have responsibly taken precautions against attacks and have attempted to keep data secure are more respected by officials and customers.

We aim to create a more secure internet and to do this we want to inform companies on data breaches and cybersecurity. We discuss all the details in our upcoming event: Fantastic Data Breaches and How to Prevent Them (you can bet we’ve done a Harry Potter-world themed event).

The Event

We have 4 amazing speakers at the event providing unique perspectives on security:

  • Introduction to data breaches & Example – Gav Winter – RapidSpike
  • Understanding the ICO, GDPR & why you should care – Data Protection People
  • Security by stealth: Building in security to develop a secure product – Gwen Diagram – Monzo Bank
  • Preventing data breaches – A test approach – Alexander Archondakis – PenTest People

Join us on our journey, defending against the dark arts of Magecart, shopping in Datagone Alley, drinking butterbeer & have fun understanding the worlds biggest & most serious digital threat. The event is ideal for anyone involved or interested in e-commerce with shopping, tickets and generally selling products online that are required to collect sensitive data via a website or mobile device.

You can find more details about the event and how to sign up on the Leeds Digital Festival page here.
